Economy System Basics
Valorant's economy system is the core element that determines match tempo. The credits you earn each round depend on the previous round's outcome:
- Round Win: +3,000 credits
- Round Loss: +1,900 credits
- Loss Streak Bonus: +500 per consecutive loss, maxing out at +2,900
- Kill Bonus: +200 credits per kill
- Spike Plant (even if you lose the round): +300 credits for every teammate
Three Economy States
Based on your team's current financial situation, you're in one of three states:
- Full Buy: Everyone can afford rifle/Operator + full armor + abilities. This is your strongest combat state
- Force Buy: Not enough for full buy but not fully saving. Typically half armor + SMG/shotgun + essential abilities
- ECO Round (Save): Minimal or zero purchases, aiming to save money for a full buy next round. Usually only buy abilities or nothing at all
Synchronizing team economy is the most important principle. Even if you personally have money, if three teammates need to ECO, you should ECO too. One person full buying while four ECO almost always results in a team wipe — and still no economy next round.
Classic Economy Decision Scenarios
Here are the most common economy scenarios in ranked and recommended decisions:
Scenario 1: After Winning Pistol Round
Pistol round winners get +3,000 each. Round 2 recommendation: Full buy — full armor + SMG/shotgun, maximizing your economic advantage to secure Round 2. Pistol round losers should ECO and save.
Scenario 2: Half-Time Side Switch
At side switch, all players' economy resets to 800 credits — effectively a fresh pistol round. Your end-of-half economy strategy should account for this: if only 1-2 rounds remain before the switch, heavy investment isn't worth it.
Scenario 3: Leading 9-3
When you have a large lead, economy management becomes even more critical. Don't get careless and buy recklessly — maintain a steady full buy/ECO rhythm. Comebacks often start from relaxed economy management.
Scenario 4: Match Point / Opponent Match Point
On match point, don't think about saving — spend everything and buy your strongest loadout. Same when facing opponent match point: this is the final round, there is no "next round."
