Post-Pistol Round Economy State
The pistol round's outcome directly shapes the economy trajectory for the first three rounds. Understanding optimal decisions for each state can give you a solid economic foundation early on.
Pistol Round Winners
If your team won pistol (+3,000 each), Round 2 recommendation: Full buy — full armor + SMG/shotgun + abilities. Don't save on Round 2 — in Round 3, opponents will full buy rifles and your SMG advantage sharply diminishes. Secure Round 2 with your gear advantage.
Pistol Round Losers
If your team lost pistol (+1,900 each), you have these options:
- Classic ECO (recommended): Buy nothing or only abilities. Save for a Round 3 full buy. Round 2's goal isn't winning — it's bleeding the opponent's economy (destroying their guns, forcing them to spend on replacements)
- Force Buy (high risk): Half armor + SMG/Marshal. Only viable when you're confident opponents won't full buy Round 2. If you flip the round, your economy completely reverses
- Semi-ECO: Some players ECO, some buy abilities for harassment. Best when you have high-utility agents (e.g., Sova's recon dart)
How to tell if opponents will full buy Round 2: Check if teammates saved guns at the end of pistol. If opponents won pistol narrowly with many deaths, they likely won't full buy Round 2 (fear of gifting good guns on death). This is when force-buying for a flip becomes viable.
Spike Plant Impact
If you lost pistol but planted the spike, everyone gets an extra +300 credits. That means 2,200 credits each for Round 2. In this case, force-buying becomes significantly more attractive — consider half armor + SMG + abilities.
Team Consistency Is Everything
Whatever strategy you choose, the team's decision MUST be unanimous. If four ECO and one force buys, that one person's gear is basically a gift to the enemy. Spend 5 seconds in the buy phase confirming everyone's purchase intent. Good economy management starts with communication.
